Introduction

00:00:00

Windows 8, a first look. Hi, I'm Don Jones, and this series of Nuggets is going to walk you through some of the great new things that are coming in Windows 8, along with some of the things you might find a little confusing. Keep in mind, I'm focused completely on pre-release code, which means there might be some minor visual adjustments, or even the locations of specific things, or their names might even change, or be tweaked by the time you actually get your hands on Windows.

00:00:25

But this is still going to be a really valuable first look to help get you oriented with some of the most important new aspects of Windows 8. Specifically, we are going to start by talking about the new Metro user interface. We'll dive a little bit into Internet Explorer 10, show you some of the great user interface improvements.

00:00:44

And I don't mean improvement as in easier, I mean improvement as in some awesomely more functional user interfaces. Good stuff there. Windows To Go, crazy important new feature that I do not think people have been talking enough about. You're going to find a lot of uses for this one.

00:00:59

Some of the new things in the world of Windows security. Some of the things that help make the operating system more stable. The quickest crash course ever for Windows PowerShell version three, the new version that is shipping for the first time with Windows 8, and just a very brief dive into some of the touch user interface stuff, along with, where I can, mouse equivalence of some of those touch related features, just to kind of get you oriented, and to make sure you can still use the operating system.

00:01:29

This is going to be a quick, quick tour, again, using pre-release bits. So a few things might change by the time you finally see it, but I think this is going to really, really help you figure out where the cool new things are in Windows 8.
