This Linux video training course with Shawn Powers covers the exam objectives for the LPI Linux Essentials certification, an entry-level cert for those with no prior Linux experience.

Linux Essentials is an entry level certification designed for those interested in learning about Linux, but not quite ready for the LPIC-1 exams. While not a requirement for future LPIC-1 certification, the Linux Essentials is designed to be a natural first step toward the more advanced certs.

This certification course is ideal for system administrators to delve into the world of Linux. Whether your goal is to advance to further certification courses, hone existing skills, or just learn enough about Open Source to make wise decisions in the server room, you'll find the information you need in this course.

Introduction

00:00:00

Hey, everybody. Welcome to the Linux Essentials course here at CBT Nuggets. I'm Shawn Powers. This is me right here. No, just kidding. This is me right here. The ugly looking one. And today, we're going to start an awesome journey here, learning about Linux.

00:00:16

Now, the Linux Essentials certification is an entry-level Linux cert for awesome, awesome people, which I'm sure, since you're listening, you are already one of. One of the biggest problems people who are starting with Linux have is that the learning curve for Linux seems to go straight up.

00:00:34

So you can be a perfectly wonderful system administrator or computer nerd, and you know what you're doing with Windows and with OS X, but when you try to start learning Linux, it's just like bashing your head against a wall, because it can be so confusing.

00:00:49

Well, the LPIC-1 certification-- there's a couple courses to teach you how to get the LPIC-1 certification-- but even those courses can be a little overwhelming at first if you're not familiar, at least somewhat, with Linux. And so the folks that came up with the LPIC-1 certification also came up with another certification called Linux Essentials.

00:01:14

And basically what that does is it creates like a little bridge so that you can get up that horribly steep learning curve and be able to get that certification to get that job or to better your current career, your current job, by learning Linux. Linux is so worth the effort, and with the Linux Essentials certification and our Linux Essentials course, learning isn't difficult.

00:01:36

Now, what do you have to learn before you start taking the Linux Essentials course? Honestly, if you're watching this video now, you're probably on a computer, and you probably know enough to get started right away. The Linux Essentials course is designed for people who don't know anything about Linux, but who are very interested in learning, and who are awesome people to begin with.

00:01:57

So before we just keep going on and on about Linux, let's get right down to business, start our next Nugget, and get on this journey to get our Linux Essentials certification. I'm really excited to take this course with you. I hope you're as excited about learning as I am about teaching.

00:02:14

I hope that this has been informative for you, and I'd like to thank you for viewing.
