Course Introduction

00:00:00

Of all of the topics in the JNCIS-ENT curriculum from Juniper, I could not wait to get to intermediate system-intermediate system. This is a routing protocol that very few people know about. It's one of the most interesting routing protocols in the world, and you and I are going to dissect it together in this sequence of Nuggets.

00:00:20

So where are we in the overall journey? Well, we are right here in the interior gateway protocol section, and it's so funny that we just completed a course in OSPF, because intermediate system to intermediate system is actually going to have more in common with OSPF than it has differences.

00:00:38

And then, of course, when we finish up IS-IS, we're moving to the first, the only, exterior gateway routing protocol, and that's border gateway protocol. So we're right in the thick of things when it comes to this JNCIS-ENT content. Now, if you're interested in the certification exam that goes along with this material, what I did was-- You're going to be very happy- is I went through the blueprint.

00:01:02

I went through the objectives for that exam. So we're going to break down everything that Juniper wanted us to know with the concepts, the operation, and the functionality of IS-IS. And what's pretty cool about this is this material ends up being vendor-neutral.

00:01:16

Sure, you could be on Cisco gear and want to know how IS-IS functions and you would be perfectly comfortable with these Nuggets. Then you're going to see I have Nuggets labeled as hands-on labs, because I'm going to be walking you through how to configure, monitor, and troubleshoot IS-IS in those particular labs.

00:01:35

Obviously, they're very specific to Juniper, but that's OK. That's what we're here to focus on, anyways, really. Now, you might notice something in this course and the other JNCIS-ENT courses that you don't see in every course from CBT Nuggets, some goodies that we're going to take advantage.

00:01:51

Number one, I am making copious flash cards for you as I move throughout this course. That's right! I'm taking notes in the form of flash cards for you. They're electronic, and in fact, what I'll do is in the very next Nugget, I'll go ahead and remind you how to find these flash cards, how to install these flash cards on your desktop, and how to go through the learning algorithm.

00:02:12

You see, when we're mastering IS-IS, we're really learning another language, and it's this language of love of a routing protocol, but there's lots of terminology and stuff that we need to master. So just like learning any new language, like I'm practicing Spanish right now, flashcards really, really help with that process.

00:02:31

There's going to be pop quizzes. You just never know when they're going to happen. But you and I are going to be moving through a concept, and I'm going to want to review some key facts with you, so we'll go ahead and do a pop quiz. As you might guess, the pop quizzes are a lot like exam-style questions you would face in the certification exam.

00:02:48

As I've already explained to you, I'm going to break out the theory from practical stuff we can do hands-on on a Juniper box. So we're going to make sure we do plenty of hands-on labs on the Juniper equipment. So we make sure we can connect, configure, verify, and troubleshoot with intermediate system to intermediate system routing.

00:03:08

Well, now you and I know exactly where we are in the scheme of things with JNCIS-ENT material, and we know we're going to be attacking intermediate system to intermediate system routing in the Nuggets to follow. I hope you're excited as I am. I sure hope this course introduction was informative for you, and I'd like to thank you for viewing.
