Course Introduction

As a long time Cisco trainer, one of the most frequent questions that I receive is, what can I do for lab work? I know I have to practice hands on with these technologies, but some of this equipment can be really expensive to license. What should I do?

Well, a powerful option for you is the Virtual Internet Routing Lab, VIRL, product from Cisco Systems themselves. In this course, we will take an in-depth look at this product. Now, I know you have a ton of questions about this product, and this course is going to answer all of them.

We'll take a look at the different versions of VIRL. We'll make sure you meet all the pre-installation requirements. We'll even look at VIRL in the cloud. Once we're installed, we'll, of course, get in the product and build many incredible simulations involving a wide variety of images that you're fully licensed for and are available in VIRL.

VIRL also gives you a really cool management tool. We can see it here. It's a graphical user interface for controlling your VIRL environment. And I'll teach you how to use all of this. So not only will you be able to run these incredible simulations, but you'll be able to make sure you're keeping your VIRL up to date and that your simulations are running effectively.

Now, I'm certainly not trying to sell you this product. We will have a very unbiased look at it here together. But I will tell you this. This emulator can do things that no other emulator can do on the planet. Trust me. We'll show you those features as we move through our VIRL course.

Well, it's really time for us to dive right in. We have a lot to cover, as I explained to you in this Nugget. Let's get started. As far as this course introduction goes, I sure hope you've found it informative, and I'd like to thank you for viewing.
