Virtual private networking (VPN) technologies are now quite commonplace in corporate networks. Cisco has responded by adding many topics in this area to the Routing and Switching CCIE. This course ensures you are adequately prepared. And this area is tricky because some of the topic domains are written exam-only, while some are lab potential. To make matters more complicated, many of the topics have a potentially very deep scope, but not so for the Routing and Switching CCIE. This course covers these technologies to the extent you require.

The topic list for this course reads like a “greatest hits” list for recent technologies, including MPLS, DMVPNs, site-to-site VPNS, and GETVPNs. These technologies are not just “nice to have,” but are considered critical in many environments today.

Just as you experienced in the previous three CCIE training courses, this installment provides the theory and hands-on approach required to master the technologies for written and lab exam excellence. Topics are broken up into very detailed components to promote easy understanding, as well as pinpoint review areas.

Note: The exam associated with this course was retired July 25, 2016. However, this course still retains value as a training resource.

It's hard to believe, but we're already at part four of our six part series on the CCIE routing and switching version 5 exam. And my name is Anthony Sequeira, and I am thrilled that you are joining me for this particular part, part four, where we are going to delve into the wonderful world of VPN technologies.

You're going to be able to follow along with me, hands-on-lab-wise, as we dissect each component of both the written and the exam, the lab exam, blueprints. It was a real honor when the guys asked me to cover this particular topic because this is going to be a very popular course, I believe.

And one of the reasons is is because these are some of the big newer areas when it comes to the routing and switching track. I mean, we are delving deep into the world of security engineers when we talk about things like the dynamic multipoint VPN. We are talking in the service provider world a bit when we talk about MPLS.

We are doing new technologies like IPv6 Tunneling. And security technologies we often see, like a site-to-site or land-to-land VPN, both in a V4 or a V6 environment. By the way, the topics that I listed down here you might be thinking, oh my gosh, they're really going to have me configure Overlay Transport Virtualization in a version 5 routing and switching lab?

And the answer to that would be no. So some of these topics are indeed going to be covered, but just for the purposes of the written examination. And as we always do in our Nuggets, we'll make it clear when we are discussing with you technology that is written exam only.

But I want to keep this particular Nugget very short. And the reason why I want to keep it very short is that we want to move to the wonderful world of MPLS and cover this intensely, so that you are ready for both the written exam in this subject, and you are also completely ready for the practical lab exam on the subject of MPLS.

We are going to break down the Nuggets into very small, bite-sized, easily-consumable Nuggets. We're going to go ahead and ensure that each one of them allows you a chance to demonstrate your mastery of that particular material. I think you are going to love it.

So with no further ado, I want to go ahead and wrap up here with our introduction to this course, and start the creation of our Nuggets on MPLS. By the way-- I think you saw from the earlier title-- but this is the fourth part in a series of courses that we are creating here that, taken as a whole, will prepare you for written and lab exam certification on the routing and switching version 5 blueprint.
