Cisco CCNA Collaboration: Welcome to CIVND2

00:00:00

Hello, and welcome to the CCNA collaboration series in CIVND2. My name is Jeremy Cioara. I'll be walking with you through this series. And this intro I'm going to keep really short, because I'm assuming that you went through CIVND1, right? And in that introduction, I went through the collaboration certification, and why CBT Nuggets is awesome, and how to get the most from this series, and all that kind of stuff.

00:00:25

So I'm not going to waste your time and repeat all that stuff. Let me just talk about what's specific to CIVND2. Think of this as the meat of the CCNA collaboration series, right? CIVND1 was great, but it's kind of like a cursory glance. Like a primer-- a primer is the way to say it-- of here's where video came from, in the codex, and all the different things like that, right?

00:00:49

This is where the rubber meets the road. We're going to get into the collaboration overview. What are the puzzle pieces of collaboration? How do you glue them all together? Well then, we'll start rolling out some video phones first. We'll get some 99s, 71s, DX 650s, rolled out in the call manager world, and add a little Jabber for fun, right?

00:01:06

The video softphone that goes on Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Then we get into the Cisco TC software. Which isn't really Cisco's-- well, it is. I guess. I just pulled my phone out of my pocket, and I'm like, I bought this iPhone.

00:01:26

So it's my iPhone. But I mean, did I make it? Did I code the iOS on this iPhone? No, Apple did, right? So it's the same way. TC was created by Tandberg, right? And Cisco bought Tandberg, so now it's their software. But it doesn't quite feel like Cisco as of yet.

00:01:42

They're still rebranding it. And of course, the logos have all been replaced, but you'll still see Tandberg all over the place. And right along with that, Tandberg had their own management solution for TelePresence, and that's VCS. Which has now become Cisco VCS.

00:01:54

So we'll look at that and how to integrate that, and use it to manage your TelePresence endpoints. Then we're going to do a big section of video conferencing. Huge, right? Huge for the real world. I mean sure, video calling is kind of cool between people, but where you really get your money's worth-- and I know some of are like, you get your money's worth?

00:02:14

Yes, you get your money's worth! I talk all about why video conferencing is so awesome when we get there. And how-- anyway, I'm not going to steal my own thunder. So videoconferencing, we'll get MCUs integrated, hardware DSP, get some Brady Bunch style conference calls going, it'll be fun.

00:02:30

Finally, we've got the TelePresence lab, which ties it all together. I reached the end of the series. I was about to release this, and then my wife had a baby, and we had to wait a little bit. And then I came back, and I was like I just don't feel right until we put it all together.

00:02:45

So I created a lab, it's about nine Nuggets or so at the end of the series, where I go through kind of building the solution from the ground up. And I get a little more behind the scenes, right? Where instead of just showing you the server, I'm like, well here's how I built the server.

00:02:59

So that way, you kind of have an idea how to do it if you want to build your own lab environment. It's going to be good. I'm telling you, when you're done with this, you're going to be like, OK I'm feeling the TelePresence love. I want to go roll out some systems.

00:03:12

You're going to love it. So let's dive in. I hope this has been informative for you, and I'd like to thank you for viewing.
